Salares

The tiny village of Salares is located in the region known as the Axarquia, 58 kilometres from Malaga and 37 kilometres from the coast. It is situated in beautiful natural surroundings in the Tejeda National Park and Game Reserve.

The village forms a part of the historic Mudejar Architecture Route.

History
The area dates back to the Roman era and still has a bridge that has been preserved from this era. It was later occupied by the Moors and re-conquered by the Christians.

Around town
The town has a very small population but offers all the amenities needed for a stay in the area,
including a supermarket, restaurants, bars, health centre and free outdoor gym.

Much of the architecture seen in Salares dates back from its Moorish occupation; its an incredibly picturesque village with winding streets, a small olive factory and the beautiful Santa Ana church, which is in the Mudejar style.

Festivals
Salares hosts the Fair Al-Sarque annually for two days during September. The festival celebrates its
Moorish history and the entire village becomes a Moorish village once more. A market is set up with stalls, food, musicians and dancers from North Africa.

Eating out
There are a few traditional bars and restaurants in the village, where you will eat and soak up the
atmosphere with the locals.

Cuisine
The cuisine in Salares is typical of the Axarquia region; specialties include Ajoblanco con Uvas (Garlic Soup with Grapes), Chota a la Cazadora (Kid in Almond Sauce), Cordero Asado al Horno (Roast Marinated Lamb) and sweet Churros, fried dough sticks, a bit like donuts, dipped in hot chocolate, delicious!

Climate
Salares enjoys a typically inland Andalucia climate, being extremely hot in the summer and temperate in the winter, although when it rains the streets become awash. The residents enjoy around 2,800 hours of annual sunshine.

Salares is a small village with a small local shop and 2 bars, with food. It is on a steep hill so one must be fit. It has 5 stars Fromm as it was what I wanted, picturesque , quiet and not full of tourists

Not much is happening here. At least this time of the year (November) . Once it gets dark I dont think that many people are likely to drive much on the very winding roads. There is a good restaurant ten minutes away in Archez, though which is not too demanding after dark, but further than that...!

Nice little town. Only a small supermarket inside for the necessary things. You have to drive 30 minutes for a larger supermarket but that is worth it to stay at such a great place.

Meget stille og rolig by. Skal man handle eller spise ude, er man nødt til at køre til nabobyerne. Heldigvis kommer brødbilen hver dag, og fiskebilen flere gange om ugen. Den kommunale swimmingpool i byen er et hit.

Mange dejlige steder kan findes omkring Torre del Mar. Også steder, som ikke er overrendt af turister.

Ein stilles,weißes Bergdorf, wir sahen keinen anderen Touristen und die (alten) Dorfbewohner sind auch meist in ihren Häusern. Aber Fußball wird auch öffentlich geguckt 3 einfache Bars. Viel Ruhe, schöne Aussicht, nixx los. Die Nachbarorte sind lebhafter, besonders Competa. In Canillas de Aceituno gab es in einem Lokal ein andalusisches Mittagsmenü, das klasse war für € 7,--. Gibt nicht viele Lokale mit Mittagessen, einfach dem Instinkt vertrauen bei der Suche. Für Fr/Sa/So gibt es noch das La Maroma, sah auch interessant aus, ist größer und gleich am Parkplatz beim Ortseingang.

Wir beschränkten uns auf die Strände um Nerja und das Städtchen sowie den Ort Maro. Am 3. Tag hatte wir unseren Lieblingsstrand und gut war's.

Charmant village, très calme et tranquille. Des maisons blanches, un ancien pont romain et des promenades fort intéressantes au mileu des orangers et des oliviers. Un effort serait pourtant à faire au niveau du balisage des promenades et de cartes style IGN.
